I spent years hiding my own well-wishes for the world behind cartoon characters that were mostly stuck in my hard drive, in boxes, and in my heart.
After publishing 32 coloring books—the first in this niche, I was invited to host a Planet Heart booth at a local teen band event. I felt deeply drawn to these performers. While they seemed confident enough to sing their hearts out on stage, I knew they were in that tough age, often feeling like the odd ones out.
That same week, the first Zebra Love™ pattern emerged on my page.
I knew instantly that it was not just another 2D design. It was gorgeous, a future hit, but it had to have a purpose. Zebras are defined by their stripes, and no two are alike—just like us.
The Zebra Love message became clear: You're allowed to be exactly who you are, without apologizing for what makes you different—as long as you give that same respect to others.
I scrambled to create an entire book of related Zebra Love designs in time for the show. I almost didn't make it! The books were delivered just as I had to leave, but my friend Cinamon Kimbrough saved the day by grabbing the box and driving them to Tempe so I could launch them to the young adults who inspired me.
Today, while these designs were born for teens, I've found that the message of owning your voice resonates with everyone. I know I need that reminder myself. That message now carries over into the apparel line, which lets you wear that confidence every day.
